Specialty Underwater Photography

Here you will learn the basics of photographing the underwater world.

Training content

In the Underwater Photography specialty , you will be introduced to digital underwater photography and learn the most important technical and practical basics. With the knowledge you have acquired, you will be able to capture and process your underwater impressions photographically, taking environmental aspects into account.

Theoretical training

  • Basics of underwater photography
  • Digital compact cameras and their housings
  • Flash and lighting techniques
  • Accessories and filters
  • Image composition under different conditions and limits
  • Image editing (auto tone value color value correction, cropping)
  • Literature references, care and service
  • Safety principles for photo dives
  • The course can be supplemented by a focus that takes into account the special local conditions (e.g. a special marine area, freshwater lake or the pool with photo motifs)

Practical training

  • Image angle and distance to the object
  • Image composition with ambient light (automatic and manual white balance)
  • Image composition with internal and external flash (automatic and manual white balance)
  • Image composition with external lighting
  • Image composition with filters
  • Close-ups
  • Image evaluation (e.g. histogram)

Prerequisites

  • Minimum age 12 years old
  • Proof of health status
  • Proof of Open Water Diver or comparable
  • For minors, a declaration of consent from a parent or legal guardian is required
