Specialty Ice Diving


Here you will get to know the fascinating world of diving under a layer of ice.

Training content

In the Ice Diving specialty, you will become familiar with the logistical and organizational requirements as well as the operating and movement techniques for diving under ice. You will learn about the special problems and dangers, but also about the fascination of ice diving. You will learn how to plan and carry out such dives safely, taking environmental protection into account.

Theoretical training

  • Preparation, logistics and organization of ice dives
  • Equipment above and below water (EN 250, suit, additional equipment such as lines, light, rescue equipment, etc.)
  • Securing and carrying out the dive, including personnel on the ice
  • Physical aspects of ice diving
  • Medical aspects of ice diving
  • Technical aspects of ice diving
  • Knot tying for ice diving
  • Line signals for ice diving
  • General safety aspects of ice diving and emergency plan/rescue chain
  • Ice accident: external and self-rescue
  • Environmental protection

Practical training

  • Preparation, logistics and organization of ice dives
  • Equipment above and under water
  • Securing and carrying out the dive, including personnel on the ice
  • Knot tying for ice diving
  • Line signals for ice diving
  • General safety aspects of ice diving and ensuring an emergency plan/rescue chain on site
  • Dive 1 in a group of two:
    • Line guidance and line signals, navigation
  • Dive 2 in a group of two:
    • Simulation of icing, closing the valve and changing the regulator
  • Dive 3 in a group of three:
    • Preparation and execution of a dive under ice

Prerequisites

  • Minimum age 18 years old
  • Proof of Advanced Open Water Diver or comparable
  • Proof of health status
  • High level of diving experience
  • Impeccable knowledge of navigation
  • Equipment according to EN 250, equipment suitable for cold water, additional equipment
