Specialty Advanced First Aid


Here you will learn how to react appropriately in an emergency situation.

Training content

The Advanced First Aid specialty teaches you the basics of first aid with a diving-specific focus. The focus is on recognizing symptoms and dealing appropriately with injured persons as well as initiating the next steps in the rescue chain.

Theoretical training

  • General basics of first aid: legal (§ 323c StGB) and medical (self-protection, gloves/mask)
  • Basic anatomy and physiology of the lungs and cardiovascular system
  • Rescue chain for BLS (Basic Life Support/First Aid/ CPR)
  • Secondary care (extended first aid)
    • Bleeding and dressings
    • Fractures, dislocations, sprains
    • Head injuries
    • Rescue grips and positioning of casualties
    • Measures in the event of shock and thermal problems (cold/heat)
  • Oxygen systems
    • Presentation of the various oxygen systems for breathing and ventilation
  • First aid kit/emergency kit
  • AED
    • Use and procedure
    • Ventricular fibrillation
    • Warning signs

Practical training

  • CPR/BLS: immediate life-saving measures with the help of a resuscitation manikin
  • Ventilation frequency and depth as well as frequency and depth of chest compressions
  • Support of the HLW/BLS by
    • Use of an AED, recovery position and shock position
    • Use of an oxygen system
  • Explanation (incl. advantages/disadvantages, potential hazards) and installation of the existing oxygen systems
  • Description of the existing first aid kit/emergency kit
    • Content and use
    • Possible applications and limitations (e.g. what may only be used by a medical professional)
  • Rescue grips, positioning and dressings
  • Possible scenarios

Prerequisites

  • Minimum age 10 years old
  • For minors, a declaration of consent from a parent or legal guardian is required
