Specialty Navigation


Here you will learn how to find your way underwater at all times during your dive.

Training content

In the Navigation specialty, you will learn how to orient yourself during your dives and how to dive safely in unfamiliar waters. You will learn how to dive according to pre-selected diving courses, how to determine your location and how to find your way back to the starting point safely.

Theoretical training

  • Natural navigation (e.g. Depth lines, underwater growth, Bottom conditions, incidence of light)
  • Navigation with the aid of instruments (e.g. compass, Depth Gauges, watch, dive computer)
  • Compass orientation (principle, design, handling, sources of error)
  • Behavior and measures in the event of loss of orientation

Practical training

  • Natural navigation and finding the entry point again using existing landmarks
  • Reverse course
  • Square course
  • Triangular course, possibly buoy markings for simplification/control

Prerequisites

  • Minimum age 12 years old
  • Proof of health status
  • Proof of Junior OWD / Open Water Diver or comparable
  • For minors, a declaration of consent from a parent or legal guardian is required
