Here you will learn the scientific fundamentals of Community Science Diving.

Training content

In the Specialty Deep Diving , you will be taught the content of deep diving and underpinned by specific practical exercises. During the corresponding dives, you will have the opportunity to apply this knowledge under supervision and gain relevant deep diving experience.

Theoretical training

  • Fundamentals of science, ethics, and sustainability in citizen science diving
  • Understanding marine and freshwater ecosystems and accurately identifying species
  • Mapping, monitoring, and documentation techniques
  • Risk assessment, navigation, and safety in scientific diving projects

Practical training

  • At least three project dives involving real or simulated data collection
  • Application of sampling techniques
  • Photographic documentation
  • Monitoring
  • Environmentally friendly diving techniques

Overview

  • Certification as an i.a.c. Community Science Diver (Ocean or Freshwater)
  • Participation in real research and citizen science projects (worldwide)

Prerequisites

  • Minimum age: 12 years old
  • Proof of i.a.c. Open Water Diver or equivalent
  • Proof of good health
  • or minors, a consent form from a parent or guardian is required
